Anne Morenn writes the kind of novels readers carry to the seaside and then refuse to put down: warm, grown up stories of family, love and second chances, set against the granite cliffs, cider farms and harbour towns of Brittany in north west France.

Her own story begins far from Brittany. Born in London, Morenn spent her childhood moving from one English coastal town to another as her father followed his naval postings. That early, restless life gave her a lasting fascination with place, identity and belonging, the very themes that now run through all of her fiction.

After earning her degree at King's College London, she built an international career in insurance and investment that took her to London, Singapore, Paris, Luxembourg, Frankfurt, Milan, Athens, Brussels and Mumbai. She eventually settled in Brittany, a region rich in history, Celtic tradition and dramatic landscape, and began writing the Romance in Brittany series.

Each novel can be read on its own, yet together they trace the interwoven lives of one Breton family. Second Chances in Brittany follows Sarah, who moves to Saint-Malo with her husband James expecting a second honeymoon, only to watch her marriage crack apart and find the courage to start over. Pasts Present in Brittany follows Jane Aurélie Henry, a Canadian archaeologist struggling alone in a foreign country until a chance meeting with Charles Pullen of Brittany Tourism changes everything.

Two Brothers in Brittany tells of Paul and Lucas, raised on a cider apple farm beside the river Rance, whose futures are jolted into life when both fall for the same woman. Opportunities in Brittany follows Felix, a wealthy professional who helps a woman crossing a frontier on a false passport and finds his whole life rearranged. Coming Home to Brittany gathers three sisters and a brother, scattered from New Orleans to Singapore, around a father interested only in himself. Undercurrents in Brittany continues the saga.

The books have earned a remarkable shelf of honours, including a Literary Titan Book Award, a Reese's Book Club Literary Excellence Award and a run of Manhattan Book Club awards. Morenn's craft lesson for writers is simple and powerful: let the place become a character, and let your people discover that endings can also be beginnings.

    Lessons for Writers

    1. Know your reader, Anne writes with total clarity about who the book is for.

    2. Make the hook personal, every premise is anchored in a character's private stakes.

    3. Build a world readers return to, recurring themes turn single books into a career.

    4. Keep evolving, the distance from Second Chances in Brittany to Undercurrents in Brittany shows deliberate growth.
